Lily woke up with her cat's tail, Pearl, right next to her nose. Lily sneezed. That was how her first day of summer break started. She sat up and yawned. Starting getting dressed, Lily thought, I should see Carol, as I promised yesterday. Carol was Lily's best friend.
It was a good day for riding her bike in the neighborhood. As she was getting her bike, she saw Carol heading toward her. As she got closer, Lily saw that grin on her face. Oh no... I know that face. Lily wanted to know what was up, but she decided to make the peace last. She did not want what was coming. As Lily rode beside Carol, she just couldn't help it. She finally blurted out, "What in the name of Spongebob are you thinking, Carol?"Lily was scared for the answer. Oh well, I said it and its done. No going back now... Lily thought. Then came the answer. "Oh... I had the most brilliant idea Lily!" Carol cried. No no no no no no! thought Lily. "I wanted to get some money, and I get my allowance at the end of the week. I told my mom to give me allowance sooner, but she said no, and suggested a lemonade or other stand! I didn't want to go out to the store, and I remembered your banana trees! Lily, I think we should make a fresh banana stand." Lily was shocked at Carol's story and her dark, deep tone at the end. She was not expecting such a normal thing! It was so normal that she actually wanted to do it! "Carol, that is about the most normal thing you ever said! I am willing to do it, but only in one condition. Only if I get part of the share." Lily was so sure Carol was going to say yes. "Sure! You can have anything as long as you work!" Carol said. "Alright, I will lend you the bananas tomorrow when they're ripe okay?I'm so excited!" Lily still needed to ask mom, so she went inside. As she did that, she remembered her mom was still at work. Better ask dad... Dad was in the kitchen making breakfast. "Oh hi kiddo!" dad said. "Hi dad. Can we use some bananas? We were thinking of a fresh banana stand." Lily said. "Oh sure!" came the answer. Lily went back outside. This time Pearl followed her. "Carol, don't go so fast! You're going to run my poor Pearl over!" Carol slowed down. "I thought she was an inside cat!" Carol was now shocked. "Well, she follows me sometimes." Lily was speaking in calm, deep voices. She did not want a fight. "Oh okay." Carol was soothed at Lily's calm voice, and she got calm too. "My dad said it was okay to use the bananas!" Lily exclaimed. "Yay!" Carol looked so happy that her head was going to burst and confetti would spill out! "Tomorrow at Three Thirty meet me at the Central Park! That is where we will get set up. See you then!" The next day, Lily hauled bags and bags of bananas out of the car. "Ouch!" Lily said as a banana bag fell on her toe. "Are you okay sweetie?" mom said. "Yeah, sure." Lily was okay. Carol didn't say where she wanted to meet. Maybe in the middle? As Lily thought that, and headed for the middle, she saw Carol creating the most beautiful banana stand. Lily gasped. "I-is that o-our fresh banana stand?!" Lily stuttered. "Oh yeah it is." Carol sounded amused too. "Okay girls, I brought Pearl so the guests can pet her." mom suggested. "Oh thank you mom! Come on Carol, lets say that on the sign!" Lily thought one hundred percent the stand was a success already. As they put the open sign up, a woman walked up to mom. "Who is she?" Lily asked. "Do you expect me to know?" Carol said. "Maybe my mom's friend?" "Maybe." "Let me go ask." Lily said as she walked to mom and the woman. "Oh hi sweetie," mom said. "Mom who is that lady you are talking to?" Lily asked. "Oh yeah, Lily this is Sarah. Sarah this is Lily," mom said. "Oh... so you are Selah's daughter," Sarah said. Lily went back to Carol. "Yep. Mom's friend." "Who is she?" "Her name is Sarah," Lily explained about Sarah. "Okay, one last question. Is she nice?" Lily laughed so hard her sides hurt. "do you think shes nice? If you don't you are completely wrong," Lily said. "So... she is nice." "Yes of course!" "Lets just open this beauty up!" Carol said as she pumped her fist in the air. Lily and Carol did the honors of flipping the sign to the open side. The first customer said, "can i pet the cat and get twelve bananas please?" "Okay that will be fourteen fifty please," Lily said as she was getting the bananas and Pearl. Pearl meowed. By the end of the day, Lily and Carol got a total of two hundred twenty four dollars. now they needed to spit it. "Mom." "Yes Lily?" "Can you spit the money for me and Carol?" Lily asked "Yes," Carol handed over the money. They ran around a little, and by the time they got back, there were two neat piles of money on the table. "Whoa," Lily and Carol said at the same time. They each grabbed one pile and counted it. They each ended up with one hundred twelve dollars and went home The End |
